Paul O’Neill joins the Invermen

We are delighted to announce the signing of forward Paul O’Neill from Cliftonville for an undisclosed fee.

The former Northern Ireland under-21 international arrives at Inver Park to bolster Tiernan Lynch’s attacking options ahead of the Danske Bank Premiership campaign.

After making his breakthrough at Glentoran as a teenager, O’Neill became one of most promising young players in the top flight, winning the Young Footballer of the Year at the 2019/20 NI Football Awards.

As part of the deal which took Conor McMenamin to the Oval in January 2021, O’Neill then moved to Cliftonville, scoring on his debut away to Coleraine.

He helped to write his name into Cliftonville’s history books when he scored a brace in last season’s League Cup final to ensure the trophy came back to North Belfast.

The 22-year-old now arrives at Inver Park, with Tiernan Lynch delighted to get his man.

“It’s no secret that we were keen to add quality in the final third and we have done just that with Paul’s signature,” he said.

“Paul already has a lot of senior football under his belt for two top clubs for someone so young and we can’t wait to get working with him.”

“We said we would only add players if they were the right fit on the pitch and off it and Paul falls into both categories. He feels he can progress his career with us and we are confident we can help him push on as well.”

We’ll have the first interview with the new recruit on our social media channels on Thursday morning, ahead of the friendly away to Warrenpoint Town.

Paul O’Neill will wear the number 9 shirt during his time at Inver Park.
