We are delighted to announce that Matthew Crawford has been promoted to the role of first team coach, joining Tiernan Lynch’s backroom team ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Matthew, who currently works as an Analyst for the Wales Men’s Senior National Team, was Head Coach of our U16 Academy team. Matthew is a UEFA A Licence and UEFA Elite Youth License holder with previous experience at Swansea City, the Irish FA National Performance Programme and the Wales U14’s Squad.

The role of first team coach will see Matthew both on the pitch contributing to training and pre-match sessions throughout the week and on matchday, alongside the management of the club’s analysis team to produce analytics on opposition, team, and individual performance.

Speaking on the role, Matthew said: “I am pleased to be given the opportunity to contribute to preparing the team both on and off the pitch working with the players and other coaches.

“The role allows me the opportunity to develop and challenge myself further as a coach. With my experience in performance analysis at an elite level this is an area I can develop to benefit our players at the club moving forward.”

Manager Tiernan Lynch believes the newest edition to his backroom team is a smart piece of recruitment and could give the Invermen an advantage this season.

He said: “Matthew is someone who I have been keen to get involved with our team in a permanent role for some time now. He has a wealth of knowledge from his time at Swansea City, the Irish FA and most recently the Welsh national side which will only add to what we do and how we prepare for games.

“We pride ourselves in our preparation through the week, so to have someone like Matthew both on the pitch during sessions and then providing analysis each day will further enhance the professionalism at the club and is another marginal advantage which our players will be able to benefit from.

“The fact that Matthew will be heading to the FIFA World Cup with Wales in November speaks volumes about the level of professional we have obtained, it is a real coup which we will take full advantage of.”
