Larne v Star United

The Larne girls came up against much bigger & stronger Star United boys. The girls struggled to get the ball down and play as they can. The boys just constantly played the long ball with 2 upfront for the whole match.

In the second half, the girls started to get into the game and were rewarded with a couple of goals. It was a really wet night the girls lost to a few goals. They played some good football and worked their socks off. The player of the match was Orla Curneen

Larne v Grove FC

The only negative from today’s game was that the girls didn’t score a goal, but not through want of trying. It was a great game to watch and showed the difference in the two teams – Grove had one tall, strong defender who more than earned her keep this morning and was the main reason Larne didn’t get the goal their play deserved.
The difference in the two teams was notable – Grove had a couple of players staying well forward, hoping to poach goals but couldn’t get through our midfield and defence and had no more than a couple of half-chances for the whole game.

The girls worked on everything they’ve been taught – playing out wide from our half, turning and looking for passes, moving into space, getting into position in attack – the girls had so many chances today which they narrowly missed.

Some great football, some really strong play out of defence, great interplay in midfield and a dozen or more chances even with the Grove defender to contend with. A nil-all draw didn’t do justice to the U9 girls this morning, but a clean sheet, some great football and lots of smiling faces meant three happy coaches this morning.

Player of the match – Anna – nominated for work-rate in defence this morning, but there were lots of great performances and all the girls on the team stepped up a level today.

Larne v Carnmoney under 11s

Larne played Carnmoney’s U11 team in a brilliant game of football. Larne started off strong and battled well. They grew into the game and their passing and movement were impressive. Great passing between Ellie McLean and Gracie Hodge set up Sofia Hamill to strike her shot perfectly into the bottom corner putting Larne 1-0 up. In the second half, Carnmoney came out a lot stronger and finally broke down our strong defence and got two quick goals. Special mention to our defence Luci Brownlee, Faith Topping and Eryn Wilson who was a strong unit today and battled well against a physical Carnmoney.

Team of the Week nominations
Macy Brennan – Our wee GK who didn’t have a lot to do in the first half but made great saves when we were under pressure from Carnmoney in the second half. Also, our player of the match was picked by the Carnmoney coach.

Faith Topping – Played brilliantly on the day, not much got past her and she worked hard all game.

Under 11s

The Larne girls played exceptionally today from the first whistle and dominated the game.
Once they got their first goal they kept the pressure up and pressed the whole game and came away with the victory.
Sophie Aiston again scoring from a distance to open the scoring. She followed this up with another. The defence of Gemma Stranney and Isla Taylor kept the North Belfast attack under control and anytime they got a shot Hallie Stewart was there to keep the ball out of the net.

The Larne Girls midfield didn’t stop the whole game and played some great football with nice passing and moving. They all had chances to score. Callee Burgess and Erica Ross coming close a few times.
Sophie Aiston and Paisleigh Baird both got a Hat trick and Eva McKee and Gemma Stranney both getting on the score sheet as well. It was a fantastic all-around performance today from the whole team. The Player of the Match was Sophie Aiston.

Larne 0-4 Cliftonville

Larne started the game well and had a few chances. They were unfortunate to find themselves 1-0 down at halftime to a deflected goal.
In the second half, the Larne lost the physical battle and conceded another 3 goals. Imogen Taylor made some wonderful saves to keep the score down.
The girls will learn from the experience and move on to next week’s match. The Player of the Match was Imogen Taylor

Larne 8-2 Belfast Swifts

It was another great performance from the Larne under 13s. They only had 9 players but the attitude, effort and passion the girls put into the game was fantastic to watch. As a team, they work so hard every week, supporting and encouraging each other from the very first whistle. The coaching team are very pleased with the commitment shown.

Goals from Rebecca Hawkins (4), Mia O’Flaherty, Alix Wilson, Eimear Ward and a debut goal from Taylor Davis, who was playing her very first match for us rounded off the scoring.
A special mention must go to the goalkeeper, ‘The Cat’, Zita de Maria who once more pulled off a couple of magnificent saves and has been nothing short of sensational all season.

Team of the Week Nominations:

Mia O’Flaherty – LM
Taylor Davis – CF

Under 16s
Larne 0-4 Crusaders

Larne was defeated 4-0 by a very strong Crusaders/IFA team. although Crusaders scored 4, 3 from open play and 1 penalty, Larne girls played some good football and showed great character. Things could have been different had they taken their chances when they fell to them. There were positives moments but unfortunately, they could not find the net.
They need to take all the positives from today’s game and move on to the next.

Team of the week nominations this week:
Rachael Robinson (Midfield)
Rebekah Robinson (Defence)
Jane Hagan (Defence)
