2012 Girls v Crusaders

It was a bitterly cold morning for the Larne girls who performed well in freezing rain. The cold definitely had an impact as it took a while for them to grow into the game. Despite that, the result was close with Mia scoring two goals. There were also strong performances from the defence and goalkeeper.

The player of the match was shared between India Wilson and Emma Rogan. India made great runs forward and was always thinking two steps ahead. She was looking for the passes and shooting opportunities whilst making great tackles.

Emma had a great game at both ends of the pitch. She was great in possession and had an amazing work rate.

Larne v Carnmoney

The girls had a point to prove after their last match with Carnmoney and they performed well. Larne came out fighting and took an early lead through Gracie Hodge. They fought for every ball and everyone put in a great shift. Larne caused Carnmoney plenty of problems with fantastic passing through the midfield. Gracie and Sofia were constant threats down the wing and Amber O’Toole’s fantastic scoring streak continues. She scored a hat trick with some great finishes. Ellie McLean and Holly McKee worked well in midfield whilst the defence of Luci, Eryn and Sophia formed a brilliant unit. Macy Brennan made some outstanding saves and kept Larne in the game when they were under pressure. It was a great performance on a cold and wet morning.

Players of the week- Gracie Hodge, Sofia Hammill and Luci Brownlee.

Under 11s

Larne 4-3 St. Mary’s

The Larne girls fought well for another win at The Valley. It was an end to end game with both teams creating chances. The Larne girls took the lead through another long-range effort from Sophie Aiston. This was followed by another thunderbolt from range to give Larne a 2-0 lead. St. Mary’s pressed hard to get into the game with Anna Grace making some good saves on her debut. St. Mary’s got a goal back and it was 2-1 at halftime.

In the second half, St. Mary’s pressed very hard as they tried to get back in the game. Larne held out and hit them on the counter-attack with Paisleigh Baird getting a goal after a great run holding off two defenders. St Mary’s hit back quickly to make it 3-2. Sophie Aiston got her 3rd after a great run past several defenders and slotting low into the bottom corner. With a couple of minutes to go St. Mary’s got there 3rd but the Larne girls were able to hold on to get the win.

Great performance from the girls on a very cold morning with some girls making their debuts and some only playing their second match.

Player of the match- Hannah McClenaghan
