Larne Youth Girls have made a great return to action in recent weeks, as they have got back on the pitch with a smile on their faces.

Both the under-11 and under-12 sides have been in action recently, and making winning starts. Coach John Haveron has brought us up-to-date on their progress so far

Under-11’s

The Larne Youth Girls Under-11 team (pictured) played their first match against St Bernard’s Girls at Valley Leisure Centre last weekend. Thanks to goals scored by Eva McKee, Annie McCann, Lisa Norris, Erica Ross, Sophie Aiston and Gemma Stranney, the team came away with a victory!

After the successful performance, coach John Haveron said: “The girls were quick out of the blocks and were in fantastic form. They produced several opportunities chances and didn’t give the opposition any time on the ball. With lots of goals and another clean sheet for the keeper Hallie Stewart, it was great to see the girls happy and playing football again after such a long lay-off”.

Under-12’s

The under-12 girls were also busy at the weekend as they travelled to Knockbreda on Sunday to play Dromore Girls, with a lot of players making their first appearance.

Reporting on the match,  John Haveron added: “The girls were up for the battle and found themselves a couple of goals up in the first ten minutes!

“Imogen Taylor opened the scoring with powerful drive from an impressive distance; Katie Monaghan soon followed this up with another goal. In goals, Ailise McAllister, the debutant goalkeeper, was outstanding and made three great saves.

“The Larne girls continued to push for more goals. Sophie Jenkins scored two goals, the second of which she scored after a brilliant sprint from half-way before firing past the keeper. Our defence were in great form, and only a minor lapse of concentration allowed Dromore to score a consolation goal.

“However, Cara Noble sealed the victory with a spectacular effort from the edge of the box late in the game. Overall, we are very pleased with the performances of both the under-11 and under-12 teams over the weekend.”

The Larne girls are back in Action this week as they play Carryduff Girls on Sunday.
