Larne Youth Girls continue progress after another great month

Jul 2, 2021 | Archive

June has been another enjoyable month for the under-11 and under-12 sides of Larne Youth Girls.

Head Coach John Haveron gives us his run down on all the action over the last month as the girls took to the field once more.

Under-11’s June report:

The girls (pictured above) continued their great form in June with some fabulous wins.  They finished off their games programme at the Valley with six wins and two defeats.  Te entire squad played some exceptional football with team captain Erica Ross leading by example. The Larne girls were a constant goal threat with Sophie Aiston, Lisa Norris, Annie McCann all scoring double figures over the month.

Their defence was solid with Gemma Stranney and Mya McAllister stopping the opposition strikers and goalkeeper Hallie Stewart keeping several clean sheets.

New players Eva McKee and Hannah McClenaghan continued to improve over the month, scoring goals and integrating nicely into the team. The team scored over 50 goals and only coincided 6 goals throughout the entire 8-week program.

Under-12’s June report:

The Larne girls had some tough games over June and also came away with some fantastic results. The team continues to improve every week. After a difficult start to the games programme, with some new players coming in and some girls only starting to play their first competitive matches they had a couple of losses in May. Since then however, the girls have gone unbeaten for the rest of the programme scoring lots of goals and playing some exceptional football.

The midfield of Jodie Ferguson, Imogen Taylor, Katie Monaghan, Teagan Gribben and Cara Noble worked non-stop, helping out the defence and creating chances and scoring goals. The defence of Clare McAleese, Maggie Deller, Macy-Lee Burton and new player Imogen McComiskey worked well together to stop the opposition creating any chances and improved every week  New goalkeeper Ailise McAllister has been outstanding since she made her debut. Up front, another new player, Sophie Jenkins, was in tremendous form getting herself into double figures for June.
