WE are excited to announce that the 2006 Larne Youth Squad will play in the 2019 SuperCupNI tournament this summer.

They will be first team ever from Larne Youth to compete in this illustrious competition.  Formerly known as ‘The Milk Cup’, this competition has been rebranded and restructured in recent years with local club teams now given the opportunity to participate in the tournament in a Minor Section which was introduced for the first time in 2018 with great success for local sides.

The competition has a rich heritage of top professionals plying their trade in their early years representing some of the biggest Premier League club’s youth teams, and our young players will be given the opportunity to go toe to toe with future stars of the game this summer.

Many of our own first team panel have represented a host of club teams and County representative sides over the years including Conor Devlin and Liam Hassin, and both players were notable faces at a well attended Press Conference in the Agnew Lounge on Wednesday night.

Niall Curneen, the club’s head of Youth Development told the audience, which was a mix of press, parents and supporterss, “Our aim from the first day was to raise the bar in everything that we do.

“This group of players have the chance to make history in being the first to go the Super Cup NI.

“In doing that they will be going up against some of the best players in the country, across the UK and in Europe.

“In their preparation and in the week itself this will be brilliant experience for them, and something they can use to inspire the players who come after them. ”

First team manager Tiernan Lynch was also in attendance to show his support for the venture. He added: “There is a clear vision at the club to have a pathway from the youngest age group to the first team.

“At every level of playing for Larne there is an expectation and this will give these players a brilliant experience of testing themselves against the best.

“They will learn so much from being away together for the week, looking after themselves, training together and the matches itself. It will be a great experience for them.”

In order to raise funds for the 2006 squad’s SuperCupNI campaign, there will be various fundraising events including a collection at this Friday’s Tennent’s Irish Cup Quarter Final against Coleraine. The sales proceeds of our Matchday Programme, Inverview, will also go to Larne Youth, so please show our lads your fantastic support.
