Larne Draw Newry in Tennent’s Irish Cup 5th Round

PREMIERSHIP side Newry City will visit Inver Park in the Tennent’s Irish Cup 5th Round  .

Larne were the first team out of the hat when the draw was made at the National Stadium at Windsor Park this morning.

Tiernan Lynch’s men were paired with the Premiership newcomers, who are currently in 11th place in the top flight.

The two sides had a home win apiece to their name when they came face-to-face in the Championship last season.

First team coach Tim McCann said: “It’s a tough draw, but the good thing is we’re at home and we know the people of Larne will support us.

“Last year’s cup run really brought everyone together and that win at Ballymena will live long in the memory.

“The Premiership is played at a really high tempo and we know Newry will come to play at that rate from the start, so we have to be ready to do the same.

“The great thing is it gives us a barometer as to where we are at and where we want to be. It’ll be one for us to look forward to when it comes around.”

The tie will take place on Saturday 5th January 2019. Fun arrangements will follow in due course.
