A brace of goals from Elle Houston gave Larne an important league win at home to Foyle Belles, in a game played in blistering summer sunshine.

They didn’t have it all their own way however, and had to come from behind for victory. The Inver Women had a strong start, but it was the visitors who took the lead.

A long ball over the top wasn’t dealt with and it ended in the opening goal for the Foyle side, as they took an early 1-0 lead.

With five minutes remaining until half-time the home side grabbed an equaliser. The goal capped off a great passage of play, with Elle Houston ensuring the ball crossed the line, to set up a second half with all to play for.

The equaliser obviously spurred William Noble’s side on but they had to wait until three minutes from the end to ensure the victory and all three points. This time, a deflected shot from Elle Houston grabbed the goal to make it 2-1

There was still time for the visitors to threaten, as Foyle Belles got a free-kick in a dangerous position but it was cleared well by the Inver Women.

The victory at the Cliff made it seven wins from their seven league outings and ensured they have a three point lead at the top of the division, as they continue to battle for the title.

Player of the Match was the skipper Katherine Haveron, who put in an excellent defensive shift at the back.

A huge thanks goes to Slimming World Larne, who sponsored the match. They are photographed above with the matchball.
