Herron and Nasseri on target in Stangmore victory

Late goals in either half saw Larne run out 2-0 winners away to Dungannon Swifts.

John Herron found the net on the stroke of half-time, while Navid Nasseri came off the bench to seal the win with six minutes left on the clock.

The Invermen were made to work for their victory and it’s one which lifts them to fourth place in the table.

Tiernan Lynch’s men created the early openings and Ben Doherty went close when he fired over a first time effort on the edge of the box, when looking to capitalise on a slack back pass.

On 28 minutes Mark Randall went close but, after jinking past three challenges outside the Dunganon box, he saw his low shot saved by Declan Dunne.

Dungannon had the ball on the net soon afterwards, but the flag was up for offside.

The deadlock was broken in the 45 minute when John Herron did well to control a Kofi Balmer throw-in before turning and firing past Dunne.

The second half was quieter in front of goal, but the insurance strike arrived on 84 minutes. A strong run from Navid Nasseri saw him release the ball to find Ronan Hale on his left. He brought a smart save out of Dunne, but Nasseri was on hand to fire in the rebound.

Conor Devlin was alert to produce a fine save Cathair Friel’s shot from the homeside, while Davy McDaid almost added a third for Larne.

Larne now travel to Coleraine for a Danske Bank Premiership encounter with Coleraine on Tuesday.
