Following Larne from afar: Ally Kerr

In the first of our new series of catching up with fans who are supporting Larne from afar, we hear from Cayman Islands resident Ally Kerr – who tunes into games during his breakfast!

  1. What is your name and how long have you been supporting Larne Football Club?

My name is Ally Kerr and I have supported Larne since signing for them from school when I was 15.

  1. What is your connection to the town and your earliest memories of the club?

I lived in Larne until I was 26 and then I decided to move abroad and travel the world, which has taken me to settle down now in the Cayman Islands. My first memories were watching the matches from the hill overlooking Inver Park and the most memorable game I remember being at was beating Glentoran 4-0 over the Christmas period in the late 80s. Big Tom Dickey launched one from near the halfway line!

  1. What is your usual matchday routine (from morning to matchday)?

Well, its quite difficult living in the Caribbean, the usual Saturday 3pm kick off for me is only 9am so I am usually having my breakfast and following the club’s Twitter coverage of the game!

  1. When was the last time you attended a game at Inver Park and how often do you get over for a game?

I attended the first 3 opening games of the 2019 / 20 season where we played Warrenpoint, Carrick and Ballymena and my journey was Cayman Islands – Miami – London – Belfast – Larne. The journey was worth it as Disco (AKA Gary McKinstry) bought me dinner and wine. I know, I was shocked too!

  1. What is your greatest memory of supporting Larne from afar?

It has to be winning the league by such a big margin in 2019 and then winning the County Antrim Shield against the Glens, which gives me bragging rights over John Devine and my auld mucker Paul Millar!
