First team setting off with Ben on his Miles for Meals campaign this Thursday

Ben Dickinson’s Miles for Meals is setting off from Inver Park on Thursday morning – and he will be joined on the first mile of his journey by Larne’s first team squad.

The 10-year-old Larne fan will be walking between his two beloved football stadiums as he leaves Inver and heads for Old Trafford all in aid of food poverty charity FareShare.

FareShare, championed by Ben’s hero, Manchester United and England footballer, Marcus Rashford MBE, collects surplus food from industry and redistributes it to charities that provide meals to vulnerable and disadvantaged families right across the UK.

Inspired by Marcus to launch his own charity campaign, ‘Ben’s Miles for Meals’, the ambitious and kind-hearted youngster aims to raise enough funds to deliver 50,000 meals to those who need it most here in Northern Ireland and further afield.

Ben – along with first team members and staff – will assemble in the Inver Park changing rooms at 9am and set off on the 60-mile journey at 9.30am.

All support at Inver is welcome and chairman Gareth Clements has encouraged the community to come out and get behind Ben.

“Ben is a remarkable young man and what is doing is a brilliant effort for a fantastic cause,” he said.

“We’re delighted to support Ben in whatever way we can and hopefully those who are free on the morning will come out to cheer him on his way.

“The support will mean a lot of Ben and his family and no doubt spur him on as he sets his eyes on Old Trafford.”

For every £1 raised, Fareshare can provide 4 meals so I want to raise enough money to feed 50,000 people in Northern Ireland and through the rest of the UK.

Ben has so far raised more than £7,000 of his £12,500 target – you can add your donation by clicking HERE.
