Chairman’s Update – Friday 12th October

Oct 12, 2018 | Archive

After two weeks on the road it will be great to get back home tomorrow when we welcome the players, management, directors and supporters of Dergview to Inver Park.
The men from the ‘Derg have had an indifferent start to the season. Results maybe haven’t gone their way of late, losing four of their last five by the odd goal; but we above all know that from our start to the season last year, performances can sometimes deserve more than your points return shows.
Rest assured we will have to be on top of our game to take full points from this fixture, Dergview are a strong outfit with no shortage of talent within their number.
Our last visit to Darragh Park is testament to this, we need to be on the front foot from the off and the mindsets need to be right, I can assure you, neither Tiernan or I wish to feel the ‘wrath of Kenny Bruce’, as we did on the evening of 24th April just past, it wasn’t pretty!
Having garnered six points on the road brings us home in good form. A fantastic performance at Ballyclare followed up last week at Limavady with a game that we should have closed out early. A few lapses in concentration however had us under the cosh a little until Davy McDaid smashed home a late penalty to settle the nerves and put a more balanced view on the score line.
Tomorrow is the first of four home games on the bounce, with our ‘Glamour Friendly’ with a Rangers XI on Wednesday followed by a local derby with Carrick Rangers in the league and then premiership side Ards come to town in the Co. Antrim Shield on Tuesday 23rd. These are four big tests that, again, will serve as a yardstick as to how far we have come or how far we still have to go, as we continue to mould and grow this squad.
Our planning is now complete for the Rangers game, we now just need to execute it, and deliver a wonderful night for the biggest crowd at Inver Park in many years.

Having worked diligently with the local authority we have managed to get our safe capacity up to just over 2200, not bad when you consider twelve months ago we were curtailed to 400.

This has afforded us the opportunity to release a number of additional batches of tickets for the game, if you as diehard, loyal fans can help spread this word and help us get a few more tickets sold it would be greatly appreciated, I would dearly love a sell-out to honour the work that has been done to get us to this point.
A great night is in store, Stephen Clements from Q Radio will be on the PA, Hammy from The Music Yard will be doing his stuff entertaining the masses, Ballyboley Pipe Band will be leading the teams out and playing at half time while Larne Youth in conjunction with Rangers Soccer Schools will play a number of small sided games for your enjoyment.
Our fan zone will be in full flight, the wee club will be open, the club shop will be open selling a range of merchandise alongside a commemorative match programme, all to mark this momentous game. Support us where you can as every penny into the coffers on the night will strengthen our hand come January and beyond.
Finally, can I thank The Curran Court Hotel for their continued sponsorship of our pre-match preparations, our match sponsor Longmore Electronics, our match ball sponsor Toast the Coast and our Man of the Match sponsor, Classic Drinks in conjunction with Vallformosa.
Thanks for your continued support.
See you at the church end…
Gareth
