Chairman’s Message: 1st December 2018

Dec 1, 2018 | Archive

We are ready to make the long trip west today as we face Dergview, with three more vital points up for grabs.
Dergview are enduring a difficult run at present, but we know how tight the encounters between the two clubs have been recently. In fact, there were only two goals in it when they came to Inver Park last month.
Former international Ivan Sproule will also be keen to get a result which will help kickstart a run under his management, and we know people look at us as a big scalp to take. All in all, we have to be on it from the start and I’ve no doubt Tiernan and the coaching staff will have us as well prepared as ever.
The boys would love your support, so please plan to make the long trip and we hope you will be rewarded for it.
We, of course, go into the match on the back of Tuesday’s County Antrim Shield semi-final. It was a narrow 1-0 defeat at Seaview, but there were so many positives to take.
We certainly didn’t look out of place at the home of the Premiership Champions, and the fact that Stephen Baxter said they altered their shape to deal with our threat was a huge compliment. We wish Crusaders well in the final.
It’s gutting to miss out on the final ourselves, but we’ve had two senior semi-finals in the space of seven months now, and lost to last season’s top two sides from the Premiership.
We ran both extremely close, but our aim for the next time we get into that position is to make those small margins work in our favour and book ourselves a place in the final.
We feel like we’re getting there and hopefully we can prove that when the next opportunity comes around.
I couldn’t possibly pass up the chance to talk about what wonderful support we had on the Shoe Road on the night.
Once again, the people of Larne turned out in their absolute droves and I know for fact both the amount and the quality of our support was noticed by everyone there, from opposition, to press and naturals. It was also hugely appreciated by the players and staff.
We are most definitely on our way…
Regards,
Gareth
