Chairman’s Message: 16 November 2018

Nov 16, 2018 | Archive

TOMORROW we welcome the players, officials and supporters of Limavady United Football Club to Inver Park.

We are looking forward to another entertaining encounter at ‘fortress Inver’ as we endeavour to continue our fourteen-month unbeaten run at home.

Our visitors will be tough, resolute and hard to break down as our encounters of late have shown. Indeed, since our last encounter on October 6th they have only had one loss in league and cup games, albeit not accruing the points tally their efforts may have warranted, we’ll have to be professional in our approach as always to ensure our goals are achieved.

The performance last week at Shamrock Park had a bit of everything and I think the result served notice to everyone around the local game that this team possibly are the ‘real deal’ and mean business after all. In this game however, we all know you’re only as good as your last performance and as such we’re back to zero again today, with it all to prove, let’s dig deep boys and put on a show.

To the fans who travelled in number last week I applaud you, not only for the noise and atmosphere you created, but for the way you conducted yourselves in general. You created a carnival style atmosphere and left the flares at home – thank you, the players and the club really appreciate it.

If the weather is kind to us tomorrow let’s see you out in force this week again, we need to try and recreate this atmosphere at home. I appreciate it is difficult with no cover on the terrace but if the weather holds, lets give it a blast tomorrow; its only short term as the roof will be back on soon – you know it makes sense!

I passed a comment last week to the fans, “Don’t be fickle, be fanatical”, what I meant by this, is that every additional head through the turnstile on a weekly basis strengthens our hand as we continue on this journey.

I know everyone thinks money is no object and to be fair Kenny has given us a great platform from which to grow, but you as supporters and residents of the town have a duty to help keep us on track in delivering the sustainability we strive for long term.

Don’t pick and choose your games, it’s the best £8 or £5 you’ll spend in the week for a couple of hours entertainment. Dust off your bonnet, dust off your scarf and most importantly bring a friend with you…! #We’reOnOurWay

I would like to say a few words of thanks and congratulations this week.

Firstly, I would like to thank Portadown Football Club for affording me the opportunity to lay a wreath on behalf of the club at their service of remembrance last Saturday, it was a very moving tribute to our fallen and it was both an honour and a humbling experience to take part in.

I would also like to congratulate Bill Guiller on his ‘The Church End’ page on Facebook, I’m sure if managed correctly and used as intended it will become a great vehicle for us to spread the ‘gospel according to Inver’ far and wide. This week already bears testament to that with ex-players, ex-pats all getting involved in the chat, long may it continue and long live Raymond Dempsey!

Massive congratulations to Lynda Hill, Mark Dobbin and everyone involved with Larne Renovation Generation on the sterling work they are doing around the town. It was fantastic to see Larne Main Street recognised in London through the week as a ‘Rising Star’ in the Great British High Street Awards 2018, I’m sure we’ll all have visibility of some of this work at the Christmas Tree lights switch on ceremony, keep at it you’re doing a great job.

Before concluding, I would like to thank my wife Karen for taking ownership of the Christmas Toy Appeal between the football club and the Salvation Army. I would urge all supporters over the coming weeks to pick up a little something extra while doing the weekly shop and drop it into the boardroom on matchdays over the next three home games with Limavady, PSNI & Dundela. No matter how big or small, together we can make a difference to someone in the local community this Christmas. Look out for Karen, Ellie or Lyn Kernohan to deposit your gift. Thank you…

Finally, can I thank The Curran Court Hotel for their continued sponsorship of our pre-match preparations, Graham’s Pizza for our post-match food, our match sponsor Label Lab, our match ball sponsor Inspirational Furnishings and our Man of the Match sponsor, Classic Drinks in conjunction with Vallformosa.

See you at the church end…

Regards

Gareth
