Captain’s Corner with Jeff Hughes

After a busy Christmas and New Year schedule, we finally got the chance to sit down with Jeff Hughes for an update from our captain in the wake of Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Crusaders.
Reflecting on the game at Seaview, Jeff said: “Simply, Saturday wasn’t good enough.
“It was a bad day at the office where anything that could go wrong, went wrong and all of the lads in the dressing room know a response is required.
“We haven’t sat back and licked our wounds. Everyone was in first thing on Monday morning seeking to learn from the game and move on as a team, the boys were hurting but we are using that as fuel to push ourselves over the next three big games coming our way.
“There is a real burning desire within the camp to make it up to our supporters not only on Saturday night, but over the next month and beyond.
“Our next three fixtures are exactly why I re-joined the club. Big games at Inver Park followed up by a crucial East Antrim derby. Supporters should be excited for all three games but for us players, it’s one game at a time and the focus is solely on Glentoran at 5.30pm on Saturday night.
“Inver Park under the lights is magical, and I can feel a sense of anticipation on the training pitch, in the office and amongst our supporters. However, the occasion is for the supporters, the players have a job to do and we will take to the pitch and give our all in our attempts to take the three points.
“A 5.30pm kick-off is something which to memory, I have never experienced in the Irish League. It is perfect for the supporter who potentially can’t attend a 3pm kick-off and I look forward to a packed home end giving us a vocal backing.
“It’s time for supporters and players to unite and show everyone what we can do.”
