Budding journalists spend the day at Inver Park

We were delighted to welcome P7 pupils from Corran, Linn and Cairncastle Primary Schools to Inver Park on Saturday to take part in a journalism competition, which saw them spend the day with our media team before writing a match report on the game.

The budding journalists (pictured above with Chairman Gareth Clements) got to experience a matchday at Inver Park from the viewpoint of a sports journalist by obtaining pitch access pre-game, carrying out interviews and watching the game from beneath our media area whilst penning their own match reports.

All six reports will be judged by TV broadcaster James Cooper, with the winner having their report published in the next edition of our match programme.

Arriving just over an hour before kick-off, the pupils were given access to the media suite at Inver Park, where our Head of Media Ian Cahoon provided information on the task at hand for the day.

Following a trip to the pitch for photographs, the young reporters held a pre-match press conference with club captain Jeff Hughes and Andy Mitchell, to quiz them about their careers and life as a professional footballer.

After this, some final advice was provided by BBC Sport NI’s Nicola McCarthy, who was on hand for a Q&A session before the pupils were taken to their seats ahead of kick-off.

The six pupils will now have until 8pm tonight to submit their match reports, with the winner being announced on our social media channels on Wednesday.

We would like to thank the three schools for their collaboration with the competition, and to BBC NI’ Nicola McCarthy for taking the time out of her schedule to host a Q&A session for the pupils.
