Alan Blayney appointed as goalkeeping coach

Larne Football Club is pleased to confirm Alan Blayney as the club’s new senior goalkeeping coach.

Alan arrives at Inver Park to replace the outgoing Michael Dougherty, who had been in the role for the past 18 months.

Having begun his playing career at Southampton, Alan also played for Doncaster Rovers, Oldham Athletic and Bohemians, before returning to Northern Ireland with Linfield and Ballymena United.

At international level, Alan was capped five times for the Northern Ireland senior side, between 2006 and 2011.

More recently he began his coaching career at Championship side Dundela, and comes to the club to work with the first team goalkeepers on a daily basis.

Alan admits it is a role he is relishing. He said: “As soon as I finished playing I was straight into coaching, it’s something I really enjoy.

“I was part-time with Dundela and enjoyed it there. When I had the chance to come here and be involved in the club full-time I jumped at it.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for me.

“I was involved in full-time football in over 10 years and you pick up bits and pieces from the coaches you work with and your own style as well.

“The two first team goalkeepers at the club have been absolute quality and have welcomed me in really well.”
